Make A Wish Foundation of Eastern New Mexico
The Make A Wish Foundation has been helping children and their families coping with difficult times and life-threatening illnesses. Desert Cruzers works closely with The Make a Wish Foundation each year in donating a portion of raffle ticket sales directly to the organization so they can continue to help children here in our own communities.
Hazel Richter, co-chair of the Make A Wish Foundation shares a touching story of a little girl’s recent wish come true:
On June 28 thru July 1, 2011, Sarah a child from Portales went on a Celebrity Wish to meet Taylor Swift, Sarah’s favorite singer. Taylor granted Sarah and her family a personal interview and photographs, autographed 5-6 items, and they enjoyed VIP seating at her concert. Accompanying Sarah to the concert were her mom, grandfather, and grandmother, who were STYLIN’ and PROFILIN’ in a Humvee limo, WOW!! What a night for the family!
Next day on to the Greenboro, NC Zoo where the Wish family was met by several employees who toured with her for the day in a magic golf cart for transportation. They were taken behind the scenes for petting & feeding of some of the animals. An employee named Stanley teased & stayed with Sarah for the whole day, upon being presented with a wonderful stuffed giraffe, (her favorite animal) & asked what she would name it, immediately responded, Stanley. MADE THAT MAN’S DAY!! Her favorite animal at the zoo was a white alligator.
In addition we were excited to participate in the families’ combination welcome home and 6th birthday party at the Rotary Park in Portales. Approximately 85 people were there to celebrate with Sarah, along with two air bouncing games, a DJ (her favorite cousin, playing her celebrities favorite songs all night long per her request SURPRISE SURPRISE), and a full meal of brisket furnished by Coach Johnson, YUM.
Because of Desert Cruzers support, wishes like this continue to be made possible. Thanks for all you do for the kids
